LOWELL THOMAS TRAVEL JOURNALISM COMPETITION
26 Years of Rewarding Journalists for Outstanding Work in the Field
February 2010
Dear Journalists:
Welcome to the 26th Annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition. We have a newly upgraded Web site this year, so entry materials may look a little different but everything remains similar to last year. We have 27 categories. Entry fees remain the same, and we still award more than $20,000 in prize money to winners.
For those new to the competition, we have categories for print, online and multimedia works and for travel photography and both audio and video broadcast. Our Grand Award designates the Lowell Thomas Travel Journalist of the Year. We recognize the Best Newspaper Travel Sections, with subdivisions by circulation; the Best Travel Magazine; Best Travel Coverage in Other Magazines; Best Online Travel Journalism Site; Best Travel Book; and Best Guidebook. Our newest category, added last year, is for Travel Blogs.
Judges will again be the faculty at the University of North Carolina-Chapel Hill School of Journalism and Mass Communication, with Winston Cavin as coordinator.
Of particular note for 2010:
