Make a Donation
The SATW Foundation sponsors the annual Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition, each year honoring outstanding work with more than $20,000 in monetary prizes, crystal awards and plaques. The Foundation pays for judging of entries done independently by faculty members at acclaimed university journalism schools.
To fund the competition, the non-profit Foundation relies on contributions, which are tax-deductible as noted below. The Foundation operates through contributions from individuals, companies and other entities. Gifts also may be given to honor business associates and friends.
The Foundation is tax-exempt under Section 501 [c] [3] of the Internal Revenue Service Code; all contributions are deductible under Section 170 [c] of that code. Our identification number is 52-1269215.

We are working on adding a place on the PayPal receipt section for you to indicate any special reason for making the donation, such as to honor someone. This should be in place soon. In Special Recognition
The following chapters in the Society of American Travel Writers have voted to match the overall donations by their members to the Foundation in the amounts noted: Atlantic-Caribbean Chapter, up to $1,500; Northeast Chapter, up to $1,500; Central States Chapter, up to $1,500; and Western Chapter, up to $1,000. The Foundation thanks all the chapters for their support.
The Central States Chapter made a donation of $500 in honor of Jean Simmons, a chapter member and a founder of SATW.

Jim Rupe: Since 2005, Jim Rupe, president and executive producer of Air & Sound Productions in Bedford, TX, has created the annual video announcing winners of each year’s Lowell Thomas Travel Journalism Competition. The Foundation sends him the winning entries, and he handles all aspects of the production, from photography to sound. Jim donates thousands of hours and dollars to produce a professional show that has enhanced the stature of the Lowell Thomas Awards. The Foundation salutes Jim for his expertise and generous contribution.
